2025 – A Year of Connections
As the year draws to a close, we would like to pause and reflect on the work we have delivered together and on the partnerships, the human connections that continue to underpin progress across Australia’s renewable energy sector.
However, the past months have been shaped by infrastructure connections and one of the most critical and complex aspects of project delivery: grid connection. We are pleased to share a significant milestone for the Upper Hunter Energy Park (UHEP) wind farm, along with a broader snapshot of what we are seeing across the market as grid‑scale battery projects accelerate.

UHEP Grid Connection
YZ has successfully managed the grid connection application phase for the 75.6MW Upper Hunter Energy Park wind farm, connecting to the Ausgrid 66kV network at Scone, NSW. As an early Christmas present, the “5.3.4A letter” under the National Electricity Rules has been received by YZ on behalf of the project.
We sincerely thank all involved: our power system consultant GInertia, OEM Goldwind, the Ausgrid Teams, AEMO, and our client Maven Renewable Energy.
BESS Grid Connection
According to AEMO’s connection scorecard, about 2/3rds of recently received connection applications are for standalone grid-forming battery projects. Whilst the connection process remains challenging and complex, the good news is that application processing times have decreased from almost 12 months on average in 2022 to currently 8.5 months.
